The trip to Richmond, Indiana for Autumn Oaks is something we look forward to every
year. At this event, not only are we competing against some of the best dogs from around the country, but more
importantly, it gives us the opportunity to visit with friends we have made through our reds.
This year was especially nice because we didn't have to load/unload dogs and ourselves
several times a day ~ getting to the event and to a hotel later in the evening. Instead, we were able to stay right
on the fairgrounds with the motor home we recently bought. It was nice to be able to relax and walk around the grounds
after the events each day, visitng with people and dogs!
Sampson Hill Redbones was well represent at this year's event . We had Holly,
Sierra and Vinessa (who received ALOT of compliments from some very well known and respected redbone people!). Also there was
Little Vin along with Lucy and Missy, pups from the Missy and Hondo breeding that are owned by Dale and Laurie Young.
During the trip this year, we also made some changes:
Hondo will be staying with Gene Allhands in Republic Missouri for a brief time.
Gene plans on breeding him while he's there. With Hondo being close to 10 years old and with no other females in our
kennel to breed this year, we felt it was important to let Hondo go and produce some pups off him. I know Gene
and his brother Rex are very excited about having Hondo with them. Both men are as dedicated to the OW Hill line
of reds as we are.
Dawn is now on a co-own with Lori Atwood of PA. She will be living with Lori yet
and she has plans to campaign her in 2006. Lori & I also plan to do a repeat breeding to Hondo during the year.
Sierra is now owned by Rex Allhands in Missouri. Rex is quite smitten over this
girl - it only seemed natural to let Sierra go with him. We know she is in very capable hands and Rex will
enjoy her on the bench as well as her personality!
We also took two of the Dawn & Hondo puppies out to Autumn Oaks with us to deliver
to Gene & Rex. These pups are with great owners and we know they have a great future ahead of them!
While at the event, Gene received a call from his wife, back home in Missouri, telling
him that the litter out of Chief and his Storm female whelped her pups. This is a repeat breeding for Gene. At Autumn
Oaks last year (2004), I was able to see one of the females from the first cross. That girl was drop dead gorgeous!
So....Gene will be watching these pups grow out and we look forward to Gene offering us a little girl to be the
next Sampson Hill addition!
Looking Ahead ....
It seems whenever we come back from our trip to Oaks, we are already planning next year's
adventure! (I guess it's in our blood lol). We will continue to promote some of our finest hounds at this
event. Next year we plan to also take part in the Breeder's Showcase.
Below are some pictures of the event...we hope you enjoy them as much as we enjoyed
attending Autumn Oaks!
